Inspect your Audi TT Mk1
When arranging an inspection of a first generation Audi TT, it is important to approach the process methodically. While buying a car sight unseen is possible, the guide advises that physically inspecting the vehicle is generally safer and less risky. You may also choose to have a reliable friend or third party inspect the Mk1 for you.
It is often recommended that you bring a friend or helper to the viewing. A second person can provide an alternative perspective and spot details you may overlook during the inspection. If possible, view the Audi TT at the seller’s house or place of business. This allows you to better understand how the car is stored and where it is driven. For instance, if the Mk1 is parked consistently on the road, there is a higher chance of bodywork issues like paint fade, rust, or perished rubber parts. Similarly, if the regular driving roads are rough and full of potholes, the suspension components, wheels, and tyres may have suffered damage.
Timing and preparation are also key factors. View the Audi TT in the morning rather than later in the day, as this minimises the time the seller has to clean up potential issues, such as a large oil leak. If you are viewing the car at a dealer, try to arrive unannounced. If the dealer knows you are coming to look at their first generation Audi TT, they may take time to prepare and clean the vehicle.
Furthermore, be cautious about the environmental conditions during the inspection. Do not try to inspect a used car in the rain, as water can conceal various bodywork and paint problems. If it does rain during your viewing, return for a second inspection before making a purchase. Similarly, if the seller has recently washed the car, exercise caution, as they may have washed the engine bay or underside of the vehicle to hide an issue, or to conceal any potential leak or problem area. If the TT Mk1 is currently in a garage or showroom, ask the seller to move it outside, as the lighting in these enclosed spaces can cover up issues that direct sunlight might reveal.
